Make your own baby food

Save money and serve your baby pure food.

There are many ways to make your own baby food. The way that I have found to be the easiest and healthiest has been to get several ice cube trays. Take a couple of vegetables, cut them into small chunks, and steam until tender. Add a little breast milk, formula, or water to the chunks, then mash up using a fork, or a food processor. For younger babies, you need to make it as smooth as possible.

Next, pour the mixture into the ice cube trays and freeze. After the food is frozen, or 24 hours later, remove the vegetable ice cubes from the trays. Place in a freezer bag and label it with the date and contents.

To heat, microwave 2 cubes on high for 30-60 seconds. You might need to add more breast milk, formula, or water for younger babies.

For more information, and recipes, we recommend the book written by Annabel Karmel, called "Top 100 Baby Purees."
